Cape Youth Force now accepting grant proposals

YARMOUTHPORT – The Cape Youth Force, part of The Cape Cod Foundation’s Youth & Philanthropy Program, is now accepting grant proposals for 2017. The force’s committee, a group of students from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School, will award a total of $1,000 in grants to local nonprofit organizations that offer projects or programs that positively impact teens on Cape Cod. The application process is entirely online; proposals must be received by midnight on May 10, 2017.

The Cape Youth Force, established in 2004 by The Cape Cod Foundation and Barnstable County UMass Extension/4H, is the only program of its kind on Cape Cod. Every year, high school students discuss issues, set priorities, review proposals and distribute grants to schools, after-school programs and organizations that work with children, youth, and families on Cape Cod. This year’s teen committee is willing to fund everything from wildlife protection to drug awareness and substance abuse prevention.

“We hope to show students how rewarding community service is by engaging them in the grant-making process,” said Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “We also encourage members of the community to contribute directly to the Community for Young People fund to enhance the students’ impact in the community.”

Since the program’s inception, Cape students have awarded over $34,000 to local organizations.
