Sandwich Republican Rep. Jeffrey Perry said Tuesday, February 2, he would seek the 10th Congressional seat held by U.S. Rep. William Delahunt, adding to a crowding GOP field. A former small business owner and police officer, Perry practices law at Flannigan and Perry P.C. Describing himself as a “fresh, dynamic and effective voice,” Perry said he would push for health care reform without mandates, employment opportunities, curbed illegal immigration, national security, and lower taxes and national debt.”

A House member since 2003, Perry jumps into a GOP field that includes Donald Hussey of Hingham and Ray Kasperowicz of Cohasset. Former state treasurer Joseph Malone of Scituate and Weymouth state Sen. Robert Hedlund are both considering runs. Perry plans a “kickoff fundraising event” for March 5 in Hyannis. Perry said the “consistent theme” he’s heard as he’s considered a run is that “people are dissatisfied with government, especially Washington D.C., failing to address any of the issues.” Perry called Gov. Mitt Romney “a political mentor to me.” He said he would “absolutely” stay in the race regardless of how the field shakes out. “I’m in. I am not running for reelection for state representative. I’m running for Congress,” he said. Perry is finishing his fourth term and said he believes in term limits.
