Joel G. Crowell, President and CEO of Cape Cod Cooperative Bank, is pleased to announce the bank’s challenge pledge of $10,000 to the Luke Vincent Powers Foundation in support of Luke’s Love Boundless Playground Project.
This project will culminate in a barrier-free public playground to be built in a central location off the Mid-Cape highway on Route 149 in West Barnstable. The new playground will provide an exceptional play area specially designed with ramping structures and safety surfacing to allow children with and without disabilities to enjoy the experience of play together. Parents, grandparents and caregivers with physical limitations are also better able to participate in playground activities with their children.
The Luke Vincent Powers Foundation was established in 2003 by William and Suzanne Powers in memory of their son Luke and is dedicated to funding infinite opportunities for children in need. They are committed to building this exceptional playground so that no child is left on the sidelines to watch and wonder what it feels like to be a part of the excitement. The total budget for this community project is $300,000. Cape Cod Cooperative Bank hopes their challenge pledge will encourage individual, family, business and corporate sponsors to join them to help bring this gift of joy and involvement to countless children.
Approximately 10 percent of the children in the United States have a disability that prevents them from using or enjoying most public playgrounds. When children with disabilities are excluded from exploration and play with their peers, it leads to further disadvantage. Many existing playgrounds are aging and were not built to meet the requirements of the ADAAG (Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibilities Guidelines).
“As a conscientious member of the Cape Cod community,” Mr. Crowell said, “we are very proud to support this important project. We view this campaign to build a barrier-free playground as an exciting and forward-thinking way to meet the needs of the community it serves. Luke’s Love Boundless Playground will provide a vital benefit for Cape residents and visitors for years to come.”
