New infectious disease doctor at CCHC

Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to introduce to the community the new Medical Director of Infection Prevention for Cape Cod Healthcare, David J. Pombo, MD.

Dr. Pombo received his medical degree and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, with specialty in Infectious Disease, and by the American Board of Medical Microbiology. Prior to his arrival at Cape Cod Healthcare, he was Medical Director of microbiology and molecular pathology in the Intermountain Healthcare Central Laboratory in Salt Lake City. He was also an Associate Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Utah.

Dr. Pombo is a member of Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, as well as many other distinguished associations. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in major medical and scientific journals, such as Lancet, Vaccine and Clinical Infectious Diseases, on topics ranging from tularemia to malaria to adverse drug reactions in trauma patients.

Dr. Pombo works closely with Laurel Miller, MD, Medical Director of Infectious Disease Clinical Services (IDCS) for CCHC, and with Gigi Dash, Director of Infection Prevention for CCHC. Dr. Pombo also consults with other CCHC physicians, within the hospital setting.
