Woodworking shop adopts aerospace technology

"As time passes technology is ever changing and becoming more affordable", says James Shaw, owner of Shaw Woodworking, Inc., a family owned, premier supplier of custom cabinetry located in Pocasset.

True to Jim Shaw's theory, recently he invested in more efficient and accurate manufacturing practices by purchasing and upgrading his company's shop with a new Fox 48 CNC (computer numerical control) router and design software from Cabinet Vision. The newly integrated software allows the design staff to configure cabinets from the architects, contractors, interior designers, or homeowner’s specifications. Cabinet Vision then sends the cabinet’s cutlists to the CNC to accurately cut all of the cabinet parts, while in the process optimizing the sheet of plywood. The driving force behind the recent upgrade was the CNC router's ability to enable the company to expand their custom cabinet options and reduce production time.

Over the holiday season, the machine was used to produce gifts, such as the dinosaur in the picture, to donate to local schools and youth organizations. Some may have seen one this year, on display for the silent auction at the Home Builders and Remodelers Association’s Christmas party. The dinosaur was donated to Cotuit and Marstons Mills Elementary Schools and the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod.
