West Barnstable, MA, December 19, 2008 - Sam’s Club Plymouth announced last week they will partner with The Luke Vincent Powers Foundation by donating funds for an all-inclusive playground in West Barnstable Village. A certified Boundless™ Playground, “Luke’s Love” will be equipped with universally accessible pathways and surfacing, swings and bouncers with back support and other unique features for children with and without disabilities. This exceptional community playground will allow children, living here on Cape Cod or visiting, their parents and caregivers the opportunity to engage in play regardless of physical limitations. Once the project is completely funded, “Luke’s Love” will be gifted to the Town of Barnstable.

A presentation of the $1,000.00 check was held yesterday at the Plymouth Sam’s Club. Sam’s Club and The Luke Vincent Powers Foundation are committed to making a meaningful impact within our communities. Sam’s Club Community Grant Program and The Wal-Mart Foundation believe that supporting children is an ultimate investment in our communities. “Our children will one day become our leaders and have a lasting impact. Through the support we can offer them now we are ultimately helping laying the groundwork for generations to come. We think that’s a good investment for the future (Wal-Mart Foundation).”

Sharing a similar mission, The Luke Vincent Powers Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the lives of disadvantaged children. The Foundation has a successful history of fundraising; raising over $60,000 for Children’s Cove-The Cape and Islands Child Advocacy Center. Other programs supported by our efforts are; an annual $1,000.00 Academic –Community-Personal Excellence Scholarship awarded to a low income student, Pre-school scholarships for less fortunate families, adoption services, Christmas giving programs and student ambassador and camp programs.

With a $300,000.00 budget for “Luke’s Love,” we are seeking major grants, corporate and local business sponsorships as well as individual commitments. In addition to the relationship we have formed with Sam’s Club Plymouth, major businesses such as Cape Cod Cooperative Bank, CVS Pharmacy and Smith Barney have committed to help make this project a success.
