CORD supports Phase II of Luke’s Love - A Boundless™ playground

The Luke Vincent Powers Foundation is honored to accept a donation in the amount of $7,500.00 from the Cape Organization for Rights of the Disabled (CORD) to help fund the final phase of Luke’s Love, an all-inclusive playground in West Barnstable Village. A certified Boundless™ Playground, Luke’s Love is equipped with universally accessible ramps and pathways, poured-in-place safety surfacing, swings and bouncers with back support and other unique features for children with [and without] disabilities.

The Luke Vincent Powers Foundation was established in 2003 by William and Suzanne Powers in memory of their son Luke. The mission is to provide opportunities for disadvantaged children within our Community by funding programs that enhance and protect their lives by creating Hope for their future. CORD has been supportive of this important project from its inception and the Founders are thrilled to collaborate with them. "Coreen Brinckerhoff, the Director of CORD is an amazing woman and advocate for the disabled population. She understands how difficult it is for families with a disabled child to find resources that bring joy to their lives ... we are extremely grateful for their commitment", said Suzanne Powers. This donation brings CORD's total giving toward the project to over $13,000.00.

The purpose of CORD is to advocate for the rights of disabled people and to promote a barrier-free environment for all. The organization has been aggressively working since 1984 to advance the independence, productivity and integration of people with disabilities, including deaf and hard of hearing people, into mainstream society. Together we believe that ALL children need a safe and exciting place to laugh, learn and play; a place where children with varying levels of social, physical and developmental abilities can interact and foster friendships. For children with disabilities, there is likely to be at least one factor at each playground that creates a barrier for them to enjoy the equipment and interact with other children. Luke's Love ensures that NO child is left on the sidelines to watch and wonder what it feels like to be part of the excitement!
