SCORE's new quickstart workshops for small business

Published on Friday, August 13, 2010

Are you ready to be your own boss? Starting your own business is a tough decision. Do you have what it takes?

* Will my idea be the right business for me?
* How much money do I need?
* Do I have to write a business plan?
* How do I make a decision to "go or nogo"?

It takes much more than a good idea and a desire to be your own boss to launch a successful venture. It requires asking the right questions and making informed decisions before reaching "go or no go."

The first workshop in the series, Startup Basics, shows you want it's really like to own and operate your own business. What you need to do to succeed and what pitfalls to avoid. You'll learn the role of sales and marketing and how to excel at both.

The other workshops in the series take you step-by-step through the process of starting a successful business. SCORE counselors will help you uncover the marketing, financial, and operational choices and decisions you need to make. They'll be available in class and afterwards to give you one-on-one guidance. You'll also have access to tools and participate in class exercises and assignments to round out your learning. The last four workshops in the series address the following important topics.

1. Developing your Business Concept
2. Building a Powerful Marketing Program
3. Establishing your Financial Projections
4. Finding your Funding Sources

As you complete the last workshop, you'll have all the elements in place to make the decision: "go or no go." You'll be ready to create a compelling business plan that gives life to your business building idea. The QuickStart series workshops are part of the Massasoit Community College Continuing Education Program.
