Realty Development Associates, a leading builder specializing in modular or factory-constructed homes, invites the public to see the latest in Modular Construction at Open Houses to be held March 20 and 21 at RDA’s Sagamore Model Design Center at 1 Bluff Road, off Route 6 and its new Norton Model Design Center located at 312 Taunton Ave (Route 140), on the Norton/Taunton line, in Norton, MA.

The Sagamore center, a single-level 2900 square foot customized modular model is contemporary in style and showcases the advantage of modular or factory construction. The house was constructed at the Wingdale, NY Westchester factory and shipped to the Sagamore site. According to Don Shulman, President of Realty Development Associates, the model represents a number of customized designs that will further showcase the modular advantage.

One such design component is the RDA-designed “in-law addition,” a separate but attached living space designed for homeowners who wish to care for their aging parents. These additions, originally designed as one-bedroom units, are now available in two-bedroom models as well.

The 3,000 square foot Norton showroom/sales center is an “in progress model” allowing the public to view all “behind the scenes” aspects of modular construction. The “open” model is in contrast to the company’s fully finished Sagamore model/design center. The Norton model is partially unfinished to allow an up-close inspection of modular construction, and is believed to be the first permanent model to offer such an opportunity to the public.

The Open Houses provide an excellent “inside glimpse” for anyone curious about the process of modular construction or who may be considering the purchase of such a property.

Experts will be on hand during the Open Houses to answer questions and explain the construction process. The tours will run from 12 noon to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

These tours, available by appointment, allow interested parties to view the actual construction process, meet the builders, and see how an entire home can be constructed, in sections, in only six days. Houses are assembled at the factory in six days and shipped to Realty Development Associates. They in turn can assemble a modular house and make it weather-tight in a day or two, then bring the project to completion within 8 to 10 weeks.

Modular construction is becoming more popular as a means of accomplishing a teardown-rebuild, or replacing a smaller obsolete house on the same lot with one that is more functional. Modular or factory-built homes use 20% more wood in the framing process than traditional or “stick-built” products.
