2010: What's happening on Main Street?

Cape & Plymouth Business has inaugurated the Legacy Awards to recognize nonprofits and businesses that contribute to our economy. The recipients of these awards will be honored at the Legacy Awards Breakfast on March 11.

Businesses and nonprofit organizations alike know that what’s happening in the economy affects them, be it in sales or donations. As part of our Legacy Awards program honoring area nonprofit efforts, join four community bank and credit union presidents and CEOs as they discuss local financial conditions – from inflation and interest rates to commercial lending and employment prospects, critical information whether you are running a business or charitable organization.

In addition to this indispensable insight to help you plan for 2010, learn how community banks are growing their market share across Cape Cod and the South Shore, directly challenging the big, global banks.

James Blake
President and CEO, HarborOne Credit Union

Joel Crowell

Peter Muise

Tim Telman

This hour-long program will include your questions to our panel, and will follow a special Legacy Awards presentation honoring local companies and their support for nonprofit organizations that play a significant role in our regional economy.

The awards address various aspects of nonprofit participation, including:

- Businesspeople or companies that significantly contribute time, expertise and financial support to a nonprofit organization or initiative

- Innovative and highly effective approaches to more productively operate nonprofit organizations

- Nonprofits’ economic and financial success through best business practices and innovation

- Local chamber initiatives and new ideas that promise long-term benefits to the economy and that can be adopted by other organizations

- Innovative alliances between businesses and nonprofit organizations for mutual economic benefit and, if possible, shared constituents and customers

- New ways to grow revenue, applying profit-making marketing principles

- Government and nonprofit alliances using collaboration as a way to assure wise use of donor dollars

- The economic impact of organizations or associations – not only over the last year, but for the long term

- Green accomplishments or practices that can serve as an exemplar for both other nonprofits and businesses
